O-Rings are generally available in five different materials from most O-Ring Distributors. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages dependent upon the type of service in which it will be employed. TefPro.com specializes in Bright White PTFE O-Rings only, and our PTFE O-Rings are popular for use in applications which require a chemically resistant and non-compressible material.
PTFE is the most chemically inert of all O-ring materials. While resistant to most chemicals including acids, bases, oils and steam it is also very tough and abrasive resistant. Unfortunately, PTFE is not easily compressed, and therefore may not seal as easily as some of the other polymers. Its outstanding tear resistance and abrasive resistance results in its slippery surface properties that make it advantageous for use in seals in moving systems such as mass spectrometer probes and valves.
PTFE is highly recommended for:
- Chemical environments
- Use in acidic or basic environments
- Sealing of moving or sliding surfaces
PTFE is not recommended for:
- Low compression vacuum sealing flanges
- High vacuum seals
- High temperature steam.
Our PTFE O-Rings are available in all five of the ASA568 Standard Size Series. The Series Numbers “0”, “100”, “200”, “300” and “400” correspond to the diameter of the cross section of the O-Ring. Within each of these groups the O-Rings are further classified according to their inside diameters.
